This project began as a simple office addition and soon became an exercise in materials and detailing.
The office is used for the clients private workplace detached from the main house.
In combination with the hardscape and entry design it creates a buffer from the street and private garden for the main house.
This project consisted of 3 separate structures. It included a new guest house, a multi-purpose room for a home gym and entertainment area plus a 75’ lap pool.
It was built into the hillside with integrated retaining walls, 6 friction piles and connecting grade beams.
The clients program and the homes naturally steep site created a partially cantilevered structure off the hillside with expansive views of the surrounding canyon.
This was a hardscape project to an existing Coop Himmelblau house in Venice.
It was important the hardscape design and materials reflected the original design intent to create a seamless transition between the original home and the later stage exterior hardscape.
The materials consisted of striated concrete slab on grade, custom fencing structure including galvanized steel wide flanges with flat bar and horizontal angle sub-structure, 1/2” tempered etched glass cladding and 5/16” concrete board side yard fencing with custom galvanized steel structure and gate assemblies.
